The Goonies is a 1985 American adventure comedy film directed by Richard Donner, written by Chris Columbus, based on a story by executive producer Steven Spielberg. Starring Sean Astin, Josh Brolin, Jeff Cohen, Corey Feldman, Kerri Green, Martha Plimpton, Joe Pantoliano, and Anne Ramsey, the film follows a band of kids who discover an old treasure map and set out on a quest to find a legendary pirate's long-lost treasure. It was released on June 7, 1985 (United States), grossed $124 million worldwide and was selected by the Library of Congress for preservation in the United States National Film Registry. The Goonies was mainly filmed in Astoria, Oregon. The old Clatsop County Jail was also used in the film.
