Kes is a classic British drama film by the legendary director Ken Loach. Considered one of the greatest films of the director, Kes was released on 27 March 1970 in the UK, won 2 BAFTA Film Awards in 1971 including "Most Promising Newcomer to Leading Film Roles" for the performance of the lead actor David Bradley. The film is based on the novel "A Kestrel for a Knave" by Barry Hines. Kes was also listed in the British Film Institute's Top Ten (British) Films. Kes was shot on location around Barnsley, South Yorkshire, England, UK. The school scenes were filmed at Edward Sheerien School in Barnsley, which was closed in 2009.
