The city's motto is "The City of Live Oaks and Friendly Folks", and has a total area of 8.5 square miles. The city was used as a filming location in The Sugarland Express (1974). Local attractions include the Longhorn Museum, Pleasanton River Park, Pleasanton Public Library, Plestex Theatre, and Pleasanton Country Club. It is also home to a campus of Coastal Bend College.
