The city was named after its literal founder, a veterinary surgeon Dr. Alexander John Chandler, who established a ranch at the current locality of the city. Chandler Museum, Arizona Railway Museum, Desert Breeze Railroad, San Marcos Golf Course, Flix Brewhouse Chandler, Chandler Center for the Arts, Folley Memorial Park, Tumbleweed Park, Arrowhead Meadows Park, Chandler Tennis Center, Fountain Park, and Veterans Oasis Park are local attractions. Phoenix-Mesa Gateway Airport is located about 11 miles east of Downtown Chandler. Interstate 10 also serves the area. Chandler is bordered by Gilbert to the northeast and Mesa to the north.
