One of the oldest and the largest cities in Albania, Tirana is the country's capital city and its most important administrative, political, economic, and cultural point. Established centuries before the Ottomans came to these lands, modern Tirana still has clear traces of Ottoman epochs imprinted in its architecture, cooking traditions, culture, and religion. Surrounded by wonderful hills, Tirana is a large European city, with many attractions and landmarks, though it is not considered to be among the most attractive and popular tourist destinations of the continent. It is possible to use a cable car to climb to the mountain and enjoy wonderful views of the capital city and its neighborhoods.
