One of the world's most known and famous tourist attractions, the Taj Mahal (ताज महल) is a historical palace built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his third wife Mumtaz Mahal in 1632. It took about 10 years for the designers and architects of those times to build and decorate the palace. It is one of the most popular tourist destinations and a key man-made wonder of the world, just like the Great Wall of China, the Pyramids of Giza, or the Leaning Tower of Pisa. The building of the Taj Mahal is made of amazing shiny-white marble and it looks really striking, especially in the background of the sunny skies of India. It is located right on the banks of the sacred Yamuna River, on the outskirts of Agra city in northern India, not far away from the country's capital city, New Delhi. The Taj Mahal is filled up with tourists and guests of the country year-round.

Actually, the palace known as the Taj Mahal is just a part of quite a large complex of buildings built by the architect Ustad Lahauri. There is a wonderful 100-square feet garden surrounding the palace, and there is also a large mosque facing the Taj Mahal. A large gateway made of marble is an actual entrance of the complex and in order to approach the palace, one should walk along pedestrian walkways, paved beside a long pool. However, the Taj Mahal tomb, with its incredible exterior and interior designs, massive main gateway, gorgeous four 240-feet tall minarets framing the tomb, is undoubtedly the main part of the architectural ensemble of the area. The landmark is one of the most important and valuable historical monuments of the planet, and it is on the list of the UNESCO World Heritage Site, alongside many other famous places.
