The Azadi Tower, known also with its former name of the Shayad Tower, is an important landmark and a famous tower situated in the west central part of Tehran, the capital city of Iran. The tower is not a skyscraper but rather a monument situated in the middle of a small green zone that can be found in Azadi Square. Built in 1972, the tower is one of the symbols of the city which also serves as a kind of gate to mark the entrance to the central part of Tehran. During the terrible events of the 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic caused by SARS-CoV-2, the Azadi Tower used to be lit up regularly in order to demonstrate solidarity with those people of Iran and the whole world who were affected and lost their relatives as a result of this deadly disease.

The tower is a popular tourist attraction as it has a large observation deck located on the upper floors of it. The total height of the Azadi Tower is estimated to be close to 150 feet, and the observation deck is situated on the top section of the tower, about 130 feet high over the ground. There is also a famous Azadi Tower Museum which can be found right in the basement of the building. The museum has plenty of interesting old artifacts on display, and it is among the most visited cultural facilities of the capital city. Unfortunately, due to the tragic events of the 2019-2020 coronavirus pandemic, which brought a lot of bad days and a lot of human life losses to the people of Iran, the number of visitors to the landmark and the city, in general, has decreased.
