South Carolina, USA

South Carolina is a state in the southeastern region of the United States of America, bordering North Carolina to the north, Georgia to the south and west, and the waters of the North Atlantic Ocean in the east. The total area of the state is close to 32 thousand square miles, with the coastline being about 170 miles long. There are 46 counties in the state, and Columbia is the capital city of South Carolina.

As part of the eastern Atlantic region of the country, the state is situated mainly in the lowlands and features numerous small rivers and lakes throughout the area. South Carolina is famous for its developed infrastructure and numerous places of interest, including modern highways and bridges, many parks and gardens, and more.

Geographically, the state of South Carolina can be divided into three areas. The coastal part is located on low hills and mostly flat plains along the ocean shores. The region known as the Piedmont occupies the northwestern and central parts of the state and is covered by hills and many forests. Finally, the third part of the state is called the Blue Ridge, and it includes some of the highlands of the Blue Ridge Mountains in the northwestern part of the state.

South Carolina is known for having a large number of lakes, with Lake Hartwell, Lake Strom Thurmond, Lake Murray, Lake Marion, Lake Moultrie, Lake Keowee, Russell Lake, and others among the largest ones. Natural parks and forests of the state include Francis Marion National Forest, Tom Yawkey Wildlife Center, Santee Coastal Reserve, Waccamaw National Wildlife Refuge, and others.
