The village is mostly known as the birthplace of Diana, Princess of Wales. Diana, Princess of Wales (Diana Frances Spencer) was born at Park House, Sandringham, on 1 July 1961. Diana was baptized on 30 August 1961 at St Mary Magdalene Church which is located to the southwest of Sandringham House. The village is also known as the location of Sandringham House, the private residence of Elizabeth II. The house is in the Norfolk Coast Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, and its gardens and parks are on the Register of Historic Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest in England.
