Milledgeville is a city in Georgia and the seat of Baldwin County, located 30 miles northeast of Macon. It is the main city of the Milledgeville Micropolitan Statistical Area. Milledgeville is located near the Oconee River, and the area can be reached by Highway 441. State Route 22 and State Route 49 also serve the area. The city is primarily famous for its educational facilities, with a few excellent schools like Central Georgia Technical College and Georgia College. There are also a few historic schools, a lot of green areas, and various facilities for sports in the city. Points of interest in Milledgeville include Georgia's Old Capital Museum, Georgia's Old Governor's Mansion, Brown-Stetson-Sanford House, Andalusia: the Home of Flannery O'Connor, Walter B Williams Junior Park, Oconee River Greenway, and Centennial Center. American short-story writer and novelist Flannery O'Connor died on August 3, 1964, in Milledgeville. She was buried at Memory Hill Cemetery.
