Mount Godwin Austen (also known as K2 mount) is the 2nd highest mountain in the world after Everest, with 8,611 meters (28,251 ft) elevation, located on the China–Pakistan border. It is notorious because it is one of the hardest and deadliest mounts to climb on, and every fourth person who had ever attempted to climb on K2 ended up dead. It is considered safer to climb the mount from the Chinese side, so most of the attempts are now currently being made from the northern part of it. K2 lies in the Karakoram Range of northern Kashmir and Jammu. K2 was also named Mount Godwin Austen for Henry Haversham Godwin-Austen who was an English topographer, geologist, and naturalist, as well as the first surveyor of the peak.
