Hatay Archeology Museum is one of the largest historical museums of Turkey, as well as the one famous for its large collection of old frescoes and mosaics of the Byzantine and Roman epochs. It was established in the late 1930s and is located in the city of Hatay, which is the capital of Antakya region in the southernmost part of the country. In the 1940s and the 1970s it underwent some renovations and currently it is one of the most visited museums of the region. In addition to mosaics, there are various sculptures, paintings, small statues, various housewares, and other cultural relics of the old times. It is also possible to visit an outdoor exhibition in a small garden which is located near the museum building.
