Hamm is one of the cities situated in the state of North Rhine-Westphalia which is in western Germany. The city was established in the early 13th century and named after the German word meaning "corner". About 150 years later, a horrible epicemic known as "The Black Death" killed almost all residents of the city, leaving only about 50 people alive. In the beginning of the 19th century there were almost 5 thousand people living in the town, and by the beginning of the 20th century there were about 30 thousand people living in Hamm. Modern day's Hamm is a home to almost 190 thousand people, with a large Turkish community close to 10,000 people. Hamm is famous for its interesting architecture and a large Hindu temple located in the city center.
