Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, also known as the Millennium Dam, is a huge hydroelectric power plant located on the Blue Nile River in Bameza, the Benishangul-Gumuz Region of Ethiopia. Owned by Ethiopian Electric Power, the construction of the dam began in April 2011 with a cost of $5 billion USD and it will be the largest hydroelectric power plant in the continent and seventh-largest in the world when completed. Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam has a height of 145 m (476 ft) and a length of 1,780 m (5,840 ft). It has two dams and three spillways.
