Gateway Of India Mumbai (गेटवे ऑफ इंडिया मुंबई), the Taj Mahal of Mumbai, is one of the most unique landmarks in the country and one of the most popular tourist attractions for both local and foreign visitors. Located in South Mumbai, the state of Maharashtra, it is an arch-monument built in "Indo-Saracenic style" to commemorate the visit of King-Emperor George V and Queen-Empress Mary to the city in 1911. It was the first time that the British monarch visited India. Situated on the waterfront at Apollo Bunder, the structure is made of basalt, and is 26 m (85 ft) high. Construction of the monument started on 31 March 1913, was completed in 1924, and is owned by the Archaeological Survey of India.
