Auckland is the most populous and the largest city of New Zealand, with a population that has recently been increasing slightly but firmly. Auckland is a city of rains and dormant volcanoes (there are over 48 of them, located in close proximity to the city), wonderful municipal parks and numerous hiking routes, various excellent facilities for sports, and plenty of accommodation options for all budgets and tastes. Auckland is located in the northernmost part of the North Island and is just less than 10-30 minutes of drive from the ocean shores, both to the east and to the west coast. The highest time for the development of Auckland as a city was between the 1late 18th and the early 19th centuries, so there is a lot of interesting architecture and landmarks of those times preserved in the city. Modern Auckland is home to the tallest tower in the Southern Hemisphere (the Sky Tower, which is 1,076 feet tall). It is an internationally recognized capital of sports, with thousands of sports-related events starting from sailing and ending up with hockey competitions taking place in various locations in the city and its neighborhoods.
