Atatürk Olympic Stadium is the largest-capacity stadium in Turkey, located in the region of İkitelli, Başakşehir, about 25 kilometers northwest of Istanbul city center. Designed by Michel Macary and Aymeric Zublena, opened to the public on 31 July 2002, it has a capacity of 75,145 seats. The stadium took its name after Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, the founding father of the Republic of Turkey. It was used as the home stadium by Süper Lig football team Istanbul BB. Galatasaray and Beşiktaş also played their home games at the venue. Atatürk Olympic Stadium hosted the 2005 UEFA Champions League Final. It also hosted the Irish rock band U2 on 6 September 2010.
