Allentown, known as "The A" or "The Queen City", is a city in Lehigh County, Pennsylvania, USA, located on the banks of Lehigh River in the eastern part of the state, 63 miles north of Philadelphia and 105 miles west of New York City. The city was founded by and named for William Allen in 1762 and incorporated on March 12, 1867. It is one of the largest cities in the state as well as the largest one in the county. Allentown is an important business and industrial center, with a great number of sports and recreation facilities.
