The Danish Girl is a biographical romantic drama movie directed by Tom Hooper, written by Lucinda Coxon, based on the book of the same name by David Ebershoff, and loosely inspired by the lives of Danish artists Lili Elbe and Gerda Wegener. Starring Eddie Redmayne, Alicia Vikander, Amber Heard, Adrian Schiller, Emerald Fennell, and Ben Whishaw, the film premiered at Venice, was released on 27 November 2015 in the United States, won the 2016 Academy Awards for "Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role" (Alicia Vikander). The Danish Girl was shot in Copenhagen, Denmark, and Brussels, Belgium. Royal Academy of Arts, Sheraton Park Lane Hotel and Blythe House in London, Elmley National Nature Reserve in Kent, Charlottenborg Palace, and Copenhagen City Hall in Copenhagen, Horta Museum in Brussels were among the filming locations. Filming also took place at Elstree Film Studios in England.
