Smithville, formerly known as Smith's Mill, is a city and part of the Kansas City metropolitan area in two counties of the state of Missouri, Platte and Clay. The city is located on the banks of Little Platte River and 21 miles north of Kansas City, near Smithville Lake of Clay County. It was named for Humphrey "Yankee" Smith and settled in 1822. Smithville is the birthplace of actors Noah Beery, Sr., and Wallace Beery. Local attractions include Downtown Smithville Historic District, Smithville Historical Museum and Inn, etc. U.S. Route 169 serves the area.
