Ngari (阿里地区) is a prefecture in northwest Tibet, western China, located close to the border with India and 990 miles west of Lhasa. Due to the location of the town very high in the mountains, there are quite frequent storms and temperature changes, especially in winter. The town has some examples of interesting old architecture, as well as a few temples and cultural establishments. Ngari is the world's one of the least densely populated areas. It has a total area of 304,683 km2 (117,639 sq mi). 6,714 meters high Mount Kailash is in Ngari Prefecture. It is divided into 7 counties: Gar County, Burang County, Zanda County, Rutog County, Gê'gyai County, Gêrzê County, and Coqên County.
