Mecca can be reached by Highway 111, on the edge of what is known as the Colorado Desert. The community was established about 100 years ago and named after the known city in the Saudi Arabia. Currently, there are about 85 hundred people living in Mecca. The town is situated about 190 feet below the sea level and sometimes the town gets affected by floods. The town's economy is based on agriculture since there are plenty of arable lands in the neighborhood of the town.
