Lawton is a city in southwest Oklahoma, USA, located 87 miles southwest of Oklahoma City. It is the seat of Comanche County and the main city of the Lawton, Oklahoma, metropolitan statistical area. The city was founded on August 6, 1901, and named for Henry Ware Lawton. It is a large commercial and industrial center. Local attractions include The Museum of the Great Plains, The Fort Sill Museum, The Comanche National Museum and Cultural Center, the First Christian Church, Historic Mattie Beal Home, Lawton Public Library, and the First Presbyterian Church of Lawton. Lawton-Fort Sill Regional Airport, Interstate 44, U.S. Route 62 and 281 serve the area. The city is also home to Cameron University.
