Lagos is a large port city in southwestern Nigeria and one of the most rapidly developing cities in the whole African continent. Its population is really large, making the city the most populous one in the country. Lagos is also a key cultural center of the whole region, with its very interesting and old local traditions, cuisine, music, and lifestyle. Economically the city is very strong and has the reputation of the city with the highest GDP per capita in Africa. Lagos is also among the fastest-developing communities in the region. Tourism plays an important role in the city's economy, and most of the guests come to Lagos when it is the time for the numerous local music festivals and cultural events which take place in plenty, mainly during the cool weather period of the year.

The city of Lagos was settled in the 15th century and founded by the Awori tribe of the Yoruba. It is located on the western shores of Lagos Lagoon, facing the Gulf of Guinea. In the middle of the century, the city used to be the capital of the country but in the mid-1970s, the capital was moved to Abuja. Lagos can be found in the very southwestern corner of the country and it enjoys a great location, both strategically and geographically. Known as a resort city, Lagos receives quite a large number of tourists and visitors who come in order to get to know the local culture and lifestyle. Most of the residents are working-class people and their families, engaged mainly in services and manufacturing-related businesses. The community is multi-religious, with approximately half of the residents following the Christian religious statements, and the other half being Muslim. The culture and social life of the people of Lagos are vivid and quite diverse.
