Ho Chi Minh City (former Saigon) is the largest city in Vietnam and its principal center of cultural and social life. Located in the southern areas of the country on the Saigon River, the city has been named after a prominent political and social leader of the country, Ho Chi Minh. In the middle of the 20th century, the city used to be the capital city of the country and its main administrative and governing center. However, in 1976 the city of Hanoi became the capital city of Vietnam. Today's Ho Chi Minh is one of the largest metropolises in the Far East and it is a Beta Plus City characterized by high levels of globalization and multi-culturalism. The city is known as the main gateway to Vietnam.

The city was established in the late 17th century and was located in a large green plateau right near the highlands of Cambodia. The border between the two countries is located just 20 miles northwest of the city. The local climate is a typical tropical one, with annual usual periods of rain and quite dry weather. Ho Chi Minh City has interesting traditions and social life dominated by quite a conservative lifestyle and love of the local people to arts. The main tourist attractions of the city include Reunification Palace, Bitexco Financial Tower, numerous modern shopping malls and office buildings, museums, temples, etc. The best idea to visit the city is certainly during the season of dry weather when it is possible to explore numerous outdoor landmarks of it.
