Gurgaon, also known as Gurugram (गुरुग्राम), is the second largest city in the state of Haryana state which is situated in the northern part of India. The city is located in very close proximity to the country's capital city, New Delhi, and has a lot of similar features to the capital city. Located about 20 miles southwest of New Delhi city center, Gurgaon has a total area of close to 280 square miles so it is a really large urban area. The capital city of the state, Chandigarh, is situated about 165 miles north of the city of Gurgaon, and the large city of Noida is located about 25 miles east. As an important part of the Indian capital city area, Gurgaon is a key center of business and economic development of the whole region, considered to be the third one after Chennai and Mumbai.

The city is built on the banks of the River Sahibi which is one of the tributaries of the Yamuna River. Basically, the city has two main areas, so-called Old Gurgaon and New Gurgaon, with different infrastructure and lifestyles.
