It has a basketball capacity of 17,923 and an ice hockey capacity of 12,300. The arena was opened on November 6, 1999. It has been the home ground of the Indiana Pacers (NBA) since 1999 and the Indiana Fever (WNBA) since 2000. It was home to Indianapolis Ice (CHL) from 1999 to 2004, and Indiana Firebirds (AFL) from 2001 to 2004. Gainbridge Fieldhouse hosted the 2000 Ray Miron President's Cup finals, the 2002 FIBA World Championship, the 2009 WNBA Finals, the 2012 WNBA Finals, the Big Ten Conference Men's Basketball Tournament, the 2017 NCAA Tournament, etc. The arena hosted many notable artists and bands including Justin Bieber, Paul McCartney, Justin Timberlake, Selena Gomez, Cher, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, Shania Twain, Bon Jovi, Ed Sheeran, Lady Gaga, Metallica, Backstreet Boys, Twenty One Pilots, Pink, and Ariana Grande.
