It was founded in 1804 and incorporated in 1874. The village has a total area of 2.52 sq mi (6.53 km2). Tourist attractions and historical landmarks in the village include Roycroft Campus, Elbert Hubbard Roycroft Museum, Millard Fillmore Museum, Sinking Pond Wildlife Sanctuary, The Healthy Zone Rink, Hamlin Park, MUSEjar, East Aurora Country Club, Knox Farm State Park, Majors Park, Aurora Theatre and Popcorn Shop. Main Street of the village has also a lot of history with its old houses, churches, and buildings. East Aurora is known as the birthplace of the Roycroft Arts & Crafts movement.
