Dhanmondi (ধানমন্ডি) is a district located in the central part of Dhaka District, about 11 kilometers southwest of Dhaka city center. It is mainly a residential district, with common social services and great sports and playgrounds. Its history dates back to the 1950s. It has a total area of 4.34 km2 (1.68 sq mi). It is famous for being home to Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, a Bangladeshi politician and the first President of the country.
