The town was established in the middle of the 19th century as a large research camp for those who were working on building railroad in the neighborhood. In the very beginning of the 20th century, the town has got its own large railway station building. In our time, the town appears in the news after strong tornadoes, like it was in April 2012, when Creston was hit by one.
