It is a unique natural attraction with amazing landscapes, meadows, hiking trails, old-growth forests, scenic highways, falls, and volcanic features. It was established at the beginning of the 20th century and has an area of 183,224 acres (741.48 km2). The lake's maximum depth is about 600 m and the width is over 9 km. The park is home to a wide variety of animals, including bobcats, chipmunks, black bears, badgers, foxes, coyotes, Peregrine falcons, hummingbirds, bald eagles, Clark's nutcrackers, and so on. The park is home to a historic hotel, Crater Lake Lodge, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
