Directed by Jim Sheridan, written for the screen by Shane Connaughton and Sheridan, starring Daniel Day-Lewis, Ray McAnally, Brenda Fricker, Cyril Cusack, Fiona Shaw, Hugh O'Conor, and Adrian Dunbar, the film was released by Palace Pictures on 24 February 1989. The film won 2 Oscars at the 62nd Academy Awards: Best Actor in a Leading Role (Daniel Day-Lewis) and Best Actress in a Supporting Role (Brenda Fricker). My Left Foot was shot at Ardmore Studios in Co. Wicklow, Ireland. Filming also took place in Dublin.
