Written and directed by Mike Figgis, based on the semi-autobiographical novel of the same name by John O'Brien, Leaving Las Vegas is an American drama movie that was released on October 27, 1995, in the United States. Starring Nicolas Cage, Elisabeth Shue, Julian Sands, Valeria Golino, and Richard Lewis, the film follows the story of a suicidal alcoholic screenwriter Ben Sanderson who moves to Las Vegas from Los Angeles to drink himself to death. The film won an Oscar for Best Actor in a Leading Role (Nicolas Cage), and three nominations for Best Actress in a Leading Role (Elisabeth Shue), Best Director, and Best Writing, Screenplay Based on Material Previously Produced or Published. Leaving Las Vegas was shot at various locations in Las Vegas, Nevada, USA. The opening sequence took place at Cock 'n Bull Pub, 2947 Lincoln Blvd, Santa Monica, CA.
