Goodfellas is an American crime drama film directed by Martin Scorsese, written by Nicholas Pileggi and Martin Scorsese. It is based on the 1985 non-fiction book "Wiseguy" by Nicholas Pileggi. Starring Robert De Niro, Ray Liotta, Joe Pesci, Lorraine Bracco, Paul Sorvino, and Frank Sivero, the film follows the rise and fall of mob associate Henry Hill, his friends and family in the Italian-American crime syndicate. It was released on September 19, 1990 (United States), won 1991 Academy Awards for "Best Actor in a Supporting Role" (Joe Pesci), and nominated for "Best Picture". It was also selected for preservation in the National Film Registry by the United States Library of Congress. Goodfellas was filmed in Queens, New Jersey, and Long Island.
