Starring Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, Jude Law, Loren Dean, Ernest Borgnine, Gore Vidal, Alan Arkin, and Blair Underwood, the film was released on October 24, 1997, in the United States, nominated for an Oscar. The film follows Vincent Freeman who wants to travel to the stars and tries to overcome genetic discrimination to realize his lifelong dream. Gattaca was shot in Los Angeles, California, USA. Filming locations included California State Polytechnic University, Sepulveda Dam, KJC Solar Farm, Los Angeles City Hall, The Forum, and Los Angeles Theatre. Marin County Civic Center in San Rafael was used for Gattaca headquarters in the film.
