Bordeaux is located in the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region in southwestern France, near the Atlantic coast of Europe. The city lies along the Garonne River. It is one of the largest and most populous cities in the country, as well as a major port and cultural center of France. Bordeaux has a long history of wine culture dating back to Roman times and is home to Vinexpo, one of the largest wine exhibitions in the world. Both red and white wines are produced in the Bordeaux region. Bordeaux-Mérignac Airport serves the city and is located about 8 km from the city center.
